To keep patterns you design together, put a brad (paper fastener) through them for storing. This is also helpful for patterns you buy if, like me, you can never get the things back in the packages properly.
This is also helpful to store templates you use for applique
Use a block of Oasis florist foam for support.
When I need to paint awkward objects in an assembly line fashion, like 30 of these peg doll faces for a reception class, I poke them into a block of Oasis to let them dry.
I once also made 20 fairy dolls with cloth bodies and papier mache heads - I stuck a stick into the head from the base of the neck (poor fairy!) then poke the head in the Oasis while the papier mache and painted faces dried.
